Asya Fateyeva is a Ukrainian-born, German-resident saxophonist redefining the capabilities of her instrument. Her captivating performances and wide-ranging repertoire have made her a rising star in the saxophone world.

Born in Kerch, Ukraine, Fateyeva’s musical journey began at a young age. By 15, she was already a student of the renowned Professor Daniel Gauthier at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (HfMT Cologne). Her hunger for knowledge led her to pursue further studies with Claude Delangle and Jean-Denis Michat in France, followed by advanced chamber music studies at the HfMT Hamburg.

Fateyeva’s artistry lies in her ability to transcend genre. Her core repertoire encompasses original works for saxophone alongside masterfully crafted arrangements of Baroque, Classical, and Romantic compositions. But Fateyeva doesn’t stop there. She actively incorporates elements of jazz, contemporary, and world music into her projects, constantly seeking new avenues for artistic expression and collaboration.

This multifaceted approach is evident in her performances at prestigious festivals worldwide, including Lucerne, Moscow, Cologne, St. Petersburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Dresden, and Schleswig-Holstein. Fateyeva has also graced the stages of the MDR Musiksommer and the “Spannungen” Music Festival in Heimbach. She became the first woman to reach the finals of the renowned international Adolphe-Sax Competition in 2014, becoming the first woman to reach the finals of the competition (she placed 3rd).

Fateyeva’s passion extends beyond the stage. She is a dedicated educator, sharing her knowledge and experience with the next generation of saxophonists. Currently, she holds faculty positions at both the Musikhochschule Lübeck and the HfMT Hamburg, where she teaches classical saxophone.
