As we welcome classical saxophonist Chika Inoue to The World of Sax, we celebrate her collaboration with guitarist Scott Morris, an exceptional album titled “Unfettered.” This album, which came out on October 16 from Samek Music in London, represents a significant achievement in the classical music world, particularly for fans of the saxophone.
“Unfettered” features stunning arrangements entirely crafted by Chika Inoue and Scott Morris. The album was recorded at the legendary Capitol Records in Hollywood, with Nico Bolas as the producer and engineered by Al Schmitt and Chandler Harold. This collaboration and recording setting have given the album a distinctive quality that stands out in the classical music genre.
The album includes beautifully rendered classical pieces, showcasing a unique blend of saxophone and guitar. It offers listeners a classical recital experience with compositions from Mozart and Schubert, performed with an extraordinary fusion of the two instruments. The pieces featured on the album include Schubert’s “Arpeggione Sonata in A minor, D. 821,” “Schwanengesang D. 957 No. 4: Ständchen (Serenade),” Mozart’s “Twelve Variations on ‘Ah vous dirai-je, Maman’, K. 265/300e,” “Adagio in B minor, K. 540,” and “Ellens Gesang III, D. 839, Op. 52 No. 6: Ave Maria.”
Each piece in “Unfettered” has been carefully chosen and arranged to highlight the delicate intricacies of the works while enhancing them through the unique instrumentation of saxophone and guitar. This approach not only pays homage to the original compositions but also offers a fresh and innovative perspective, making the album a rare treat for classical music enthusiasts and saxophonists alike.
Welcome to The World of Sax, Chika, and keep making beautiful music!
