Community Guidelines

The World of Sax exists to celebrate the saxophone and the people who love it — across genres, generations, and experience levels.

These guidelines are here to make sure this remains a place where curiosity, respect, and good conversation can thrive.

Who These Guidelines Are For

These guidelines apply anywhere the World of Sax community interacts, including:

  • Website comments
  • Social media discussions
  • Interviews and submissions
  • Community forums or live events (virtual or in-person)

They exist to protect the conversation — not to police it.

Be Respectful

This should go without saying, but it matters.

Treat other people — musicians, writers, readers, students, professionals — with respect. Disagreement is fine. Dismissiveness, personal attacks, or bad-faith behavior are not.

You can critique ideas, music, or opinions.
You can’t attack people.

No Gatekeeping

There is no single “right” way to be a saxophonist.

Some people play professionally.
Some people teach.
Some people are just starting.
Some people are lifelong listeners.

Everyone belongs here.

Statements that belittle others based on experience level, genre preference, background, or career path don’t help the conversation and won’t be encouraged.

Stay Curious, Not Combative

Healthy debate is welcome.
Curiosity is encouraged.

If a discussion turns into:

  • Repeated bad-faith arguments
  • Personal scorekeeping
  • Performative outrage
  • “Gotcha” behavior

It stops being useful.

The goal is understanding, not winning.

Respect the Musicians

Saxophonists — living and deceased — are discussed here with care.

That means:

  • No harassment
  • No personal insults
  • No speculation presented as fact
  • No diminishing someone’s work for cheap laughs

Critical discussion is welcome when it adds insight. Cruelty is not.

No Spam or Self-Promotion Abuse

Sharing relevant work, ideas, or projects is fine when it contributes meaningfully to the conversation.

Repeated, unsolicited promotion — especially when unrelated — is not.

If something feels more like advertising than participation, it probably is.

Inclusive and Global by Design

The World of Sax is a global community.

Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise demeaning language has no place here. Neither does dismissing musical traditions or cultures outside your own experience.

Respect across cultures, identities, and traditions is non-negotiable.

Moderation Philosophy

Moderation here is intentional and minimal — but it exists.

That means:

  • Content may be removed if it violates these guidelines
  • Repeated issues may lead to limited participation
  • Extreme or abusive behavior may result in removal from community spaces

Moderation decisions are made to protect the community, not to silence disagreement.

Mistakes and Good Faith

People make mistakes.
So do we.

If something is pointed out respectfully and in good faith, it will be considered seriously. The goal is improvement, not punishment.

Why This Matters

Music communities work best when people feel safe enough to:

  • Ask questions
  • Share ideas
  • Disagree thoughtfully
  • Learn something new

These guidelines exist to keep that possible.

An Open Door

If you’re unsure whether something belongs, err on the side of curiosity and respect.

If you see behavior that undermines the spirit of this community, you’re welcome to flag it.

The World of Sax is better when the conversation stays thoughtful, generous, and human.
