Frank Basile, born in 1978, is a virtuoso of the baritone saxophone whose musical journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. His early years in Illinois and Nebraska laid the foundation for a career that would see him become one of the most sought-after baritone saxophonists of his time.

From his initial years on clarinet and alto saxophone, Basile’s transition to the baritone saxophone marked the beginning of his deep connection with jazz. His passion for the genre blossomed in high school, leading him to seek out advanced instruction and immerse himself in the local jazz scene.

Pursuing higher education at the University of North Texas, Basile honed his craft in the prestigious One O’clock Lab Band. His move to New York in 2001 as part of the inaugural Jazz Studies program at the Juilliard School was a pivotal moment, setting the stage for a career that would intertwine performance, recording, and education.

In New York, Basile quickly established himself as a “prized sideman,” collaborating with jazz legends and ensembles such as The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, The Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, The Bob Mintzer Big Band and the Joe Lovano Nonet. His versatility and profound musicality have made him a fixture in major jazz clubs and on international stages.

As an educator, Basile’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians is evident through his private studio and adjunct faculty positions at esteemed institutions. His leadership extends to his own quartet, quintet, and sextet, with which he has released acclaimed recordings.
