The World of Sax — theworldofsax.com
Last updated: October 22, 2026

The World of Sax (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website theworldofsax.com. This page explains what personal information the site collects, why, and the choices you have. We keep this deliberately simple, because the site itself is simple: it publishes stories and profiles about saxophonists, and it offers a newsletter. There is no store, no checkout, and no user accounts for visitors.

Who we are

The World of Sax is operated by Fred Hagerman. You can reach us at fred@theworldofsax.com.

What we collect and why

When you visit the site
Like most websites, our hosting provider (SiteGround) records standard server logs, which can include your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested. These logs are used for security and to keep the site running.

We use Google Analytics (provided through MonsterInsights) to understand how visitors use the site in aggregate — which stories and profiles are read, roughly where readers are located, and whether they arrive from search, social media, or directly. Google Analytics uses cookies (see below) and reports trends to us; it does not give us your name or email address.

When you subscribe to the newsletter
Our newsletter runs on MailPoet. If you sign up, we collect:

  • Your email address (required)
  • Your first name (optional, if you provide it)

Signup uses double opt-in: we send a confirmation email, and you are only subscribed once you click the confirmation link. Subscriptions, confirmation, and delivery are handled by MailPoet and the MailPoet Sending Service.

Emails we send contain a small tracking image and tracked links, which let MailPoet tell us whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. We use that information only to understand what readers find interesting and to keep the list healthy. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops all newsletter mail immediately.

When you leave a comment
If you leave a comment on a story, WordPress collects the name, email address, and website you enter in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser details, which are used to detect spam. Your email address is never displayed publicly.

When you contact us
If you email us, we keep the message and your email address so we can reply and keep track of the conversation.

Cookies

The site uses a small number of cookies:

  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) — measure visits and usage in aggregate.
  • WordPress cookies — if you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website in a cookie so you don’t have to re-enter them next time. Site administrators who log in receive standard WordPress login cookies.
  • Newsletter cookies (MailPoet) — used to manage signup forms and popups, for example to avoid showing you the same form repeatedly.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site will still work.

Affiliate links

The World of Sax is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program. Some pages link to products on Amazon (for example, instruments, mouthpieces, reeds, and recordings). If you click one of those links, Amazon may place a cookie on your device so that a purchase you make can be attributed to us, and we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. Amazon’s handling of your information is governed by Amazon’s own privacy policy.

Links to other services

Stories and profiles link out to third-party services, including Spotify, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and artists’ own websites. When you follow those links you leave our site, and those services’ privacy policies apply. A link is provided for your convenience and for attribution; it is not a transfer of your information by us.

Who we share information with

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make the site and newsletter function:

  • SiteGround — website hosting (server logs)
  • Google — Analytics and Search Console (aggregate usage data)
  • MailPoet — newsletter signup, storage, and delivery
  • Amazon — affiliate link attribution, if you click an affiliate link

We may also disclose information if required by law.

How long we keep information

  • Newsletter subscriber information is kept while you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, MailPoet retains a minimal record so we don’t accidentally re-add you.
  • Server logs are retained by our host for a limited period for security purposes.
  • Comments, if published, remain on the story unless you ask us to remove them.

Your rights

You may ask us at any time to:

  • Tell you what personal information we hold about you
  • Correct it
  • Delete it
  • Withdraw your consent to the newsletter (the unsubscribe link in any email does this instantly)

Write to fred@theworldofsax.com and we will act on your request promptly. Depending on where you live (for example, the European Economic Area, the UK, or California), you may have additional rights under local law, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

The site is written for a general audience of music fans and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles personal information — for example, if we add a store or new services — we will update this page and change the “Last updated” date above.
