Ron Blake Website

Ron Blake needs no introduction among professional saxophonists. Throughout his illustrious career, he has established himself as a true master of the instrument, leaving an indelible mark on the jazz landscape with his versatility, technical prowess, and innovative musical approach.

Born in the US Virgin Islands, Blake’s musical journey began early with guitar lessons at the age of 8. However, it was the saxophone that truly captured his heart. He honed his skills under the tutelage of renowned classical saxophonist Dr. Frederick Hemke, at Northwestern University in Chicago. He later earned a Master’s degree at NYU.

Blake’s career is marked by significant collaborations and roles, including being a member of Roy Hargrove’s quintet and Art Farmer’s group, co-founding the 21st Century Band and the Tahmun record label with Dion Parson, and contributing to the Grammy-winning Christian McBride Big Band. His discography includes over sixty credits as a sideman alongside notable albums as a leader, such as “Sonic Tonic” and “Mistaken Identity.”

Currently, Blake enriches the jazz world not only through his performances but also as a respected educator at The Juilliard School. His work reflects a profound commitment to the evolution and dissemination of jazz, making him a significant figure for both aspiring and established saxophonists.
