Seattle-born saxophonist Roxy Coss wears many hats – composer, bandleader, educator, and activist – all while leaving her mark on the global jazz scene.

Coss’s musical journey began early, with piano lessons from a young age. By nine, she had picked up the saxophone, and by eleven, jazz had captured her heart, leading her to play tenor sax in her middle school band.

Coss stands out as one of the few female bandleaders in jazz, carving a unique path in a traditionally male-dominated field. Her impressive career trajectory includes performances and recordings with renowned jazz artists, as well as headlining major festivals like the Newport Jazz Festival and the Melbourne Big Band Festival.

Beyond her impressive performance career, Coss is a passionate advocate for inclusivity in the jazz world. She founded the Women in Jazz Organization (WIJO) to empower and support female jazz musicians. Her dedication to education extends beyond WIJO, with faculty positions held at prestigious institutions like The Juilliard School.

Roxy Coss’s influence extends beyond the stage. As an endorser for Vandoren and Neotech products, she inspires fellow saxophonists by using the tools that help her create her signature sound.

Through her multifaceted career, Roxy Coss has solidified her position as a leading force in the jazz world, paving the way for future generations while leaving behind a legacy of musical excellence and unwavering commitment to social change.
