Warren Hill is a renowned saxophonist and composer known for his smooth jazz style. He was born on April 15, 1966, in Toronto, Canada, and grew up in Danville, California, where he began playing the saxophone at the age of eight. Hill was influenced by artists such as David Sanborn, Grover Washington Jr., and Cannonball Adderley.
Hill attended Los Medanos College and later transferred to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where he honed his skills as a musician. After graduating, Hill moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music.
In 1986, Hill released his debut album “Feels So Good” independently, which garnered attention from the record label, RCA. He signed with RCA and released his major label debut, “Kiss Under the Moon,” in 1991, which featured the hit single “Hey Jude.”
Hill continued to release successful albums, including “Devotion” (1993), “Shelter” (1997), and “Love Life” (2000), which earned him a reputation as one of the most successful smooth jazz saxophonists of his time. In addition to his solo work, Hill has collaborated with numerous artists, including Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, and Santana.
Hill has also had success in film and television, composing music for shows such as “The Drew Carey Show” and “Scrubs.” He also composed the theme for the television show “Soul Food.”
Over the years, Hill has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the music industry. He was awarded the Canadian Smooth Jazz Award for “International Instrumentalist of the Year” in 2006, and he was inducted into the Canadian Smooth Jazz Hall of Fame in 2013.
