Despite car troubles on the way to the airport, Kirk Whalum and band made it safely to Norfolk for their show last night at the Harrison Opera House. Playing to a packed, enthusiastic audience, Whalum took to the stage and didn’t disappoint!
Introducing Kirk was Jay Lang, the President and Founder of the HJ Lang Foundation, and General Manager of Smooth 88.1, Hampton University’s Jazz, Gospel and R&B radio station. Whalum and Lang are good friends and their pre-concert interview can be heard here.
Whalum covered some classics, along with pieces from his 2019 album, Humanite. Joining him was singer, songwriter and guitarist Andrea Lisa, an up and coming artist originally from South Africa. She contributed to the Humanite album and is currently touring with Whalum.
Kirk is currently touring with upcoming performances in Annapolis, Indianapolis, Raleigh, Washington, D.C., Portsmouth, NH, and Philadelphia.
